    B4C is a noteworthy ceramic material that has been widely used in civil, aerospace, and military fields. The most prominent feature of B4C is its extraordinary hardness (Mohs hardness of 9.36, microhardness of 55GPa~67GPa), which is second only to diamond and cubic boron nitride. In addition, boron carbide has a low density (2.52g/cm3), a high melting point (2450 ° C), and high high-temperature strength, good chemical stability (boron carbide generally does not react with chemical reagents at room temperature, and only slowly corrodes in a mixture of hydrofluoric acid sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid nitric acid, making it one of the most chemically stable compounds). B4C has excellent neutron absorption capacity, excellent thermoelectric performance (140s · m-1, room temperature), and a low coefficient of expansion (5.0x10-K-1). Therefore, B4C can be used to prepare bulletproof armor, cutting tools, special acid and alkali resistant materials, thermocouples, and atomic reactor control and shielding materials.
